Teddy Ebersol's Red Sox Fields
Teddy Ebersol's Red Sox Fields are a sensational collection of baseball, T-ball, and soccer fields located on the Charles River in Lederman Park, in the area between the Longfellow Bridge and the Museum of Science.
Tom Werner, Red Sox Chairman, created the idea for this field project as a tribute to Teddy Ebersol, a young Red Sox fan who was killed tragically in a plane crash. Teddy, the son of Dick Ebersol and Susan St. James, was fourteen years old and an avid Red Sox Fan.
The project is organized by three founding groups: Hill House, The Esplanade Association, and The Red Sox Foundation. In early 2006, CampusCare ® was contacted by these groups to act as a consultant to assess the forecasted field use, to review specifications for field care, and to help determine an annual budget for future maintanence.
CampusCare ® donated services to the project in June 2006 to help prepare for the dedication ceremony, working alongside Dave Mellor and his sports turf crew from Fenway Park. The relationship continued as CampusCare ® provided interim mowing services for the general contractor, who had been hired to build the fields.
In September 2006, the partnership hired CampusCare ® to provide comprehensive maintenance services for the fields. These services include:
- Soil testing
- Weekly mowing of the fields
- Maintenance
- Core aeration program
- Overseeding program
- Customized fertilization and lawn care program
- Irrigation startup, adjustment, biweekly monitoring and inspections, repairs as needed, and winterization
- Support services for special projects
- Field rennovation and drainage work
CampusCare ® is honored to be part of this important project that will be a legacy for the residents and children of Boston for many years.
